DON’T CALL IT CLOWN: THE INTENSIVE

This intensive workshop will demand your heart, your guts, and all your fluids. We will see how funny you can be when you give it all you’ve got. We will learn about your unique connection to the audience, your special brand of vulnerable ferocity, and the deep art you are capable of. Connect with your audiences like never before, and make them love you forever. In this 3-day, 15-hour intensive, expect the following:

• A deeper connection to and understanding of your audience
• Personalized feedback (and plenty of it).
• Discovery and exploration of your “sweet spots”: unique ways that you move/be (emotional/physical states) that your audience especially enjoys.
• More understanding of what “stage magnetism” means for you, and how to really harness your performative power.
- The beginnings of new characters and sketches.

DRAG KING COMEDY WORKSHOP AND COMPETITION SHOW


A workshop and competition show in the fierce vulnerability of masculine drag
exclusively for women and afab performers
with Deanna Fleysher (aka Vincent Prix)

In this two-day intensive and show, we will find, hone, and fully work out the stupid man inside of you, so that you can slay the competition at being a hilarious, unique and very very manly drag king. Through exercises based in clown, grotesque and physical theater, we will hone your man body, clarify your physical and vocal expression, and get you pumped full of generally funny man juice.

In this 2-day intensive workshop and competition show experience, expect the following:

• Discovery and exploration of your own Drag King character, suitable for drag shows and competition, as well as just taking him out and parading him around town.
• Personalized feedback (and plenty of it)
• More understanding of what “stage magnetism” and “fierce vulnerability” mean for you, and how to really harness your performative power, both in and out of drag
• Lip syncing and interpretive dance
• A unique performance experience with your drag king brothers, complete with celebrity judges and a phallic trophy

• Laughing a lot
• Participation in the workshop entitles you to compete in a Drag King Show competition. The winner will earn the Title of Mr. Big Silver-Lick and the envy of all of their less-macho friends.

About the Facilitator

Deanna Fleysher is a drag clown, comedy artist, teacher and director. She cultivates comedy that is interactive, magnetic and brave. She has toured extensively with her award-snatching solo show Butt Kapinski, and continues work on her new duo show The Method Prix, as well as directing many award-eating touring solo and duo shows.
